Today marks the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. General secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping, urged the nation to promote the country's two centenary goals -- its reform and opening-up. Xi made the call in his speech at a meeting celebrating the anniversary. He also vowed to fight against corruption, and called for intensified efforts in supply-side structural reform.
He says China adheres to peaceful development, practices a mutually beneficial open strategy leading to win-win progress, and strengthens friendly ties with other countries to advance the peace and development of mankind. Xi urged the entire party to be prepared to face up to challenges and risks, remove barriers and solve problems.
"We should make it the general target of comprehensively deepening reform. That is, improving and developing the socialist system with Chinese characteristics, and promoting modernization of the state-governance system and ability. And we should have the courage to boost innovation in theory, practice, system and other aspects, so as to create a more mature and better-formed system, better-quality development, a better-level governance as well as a better sense of achievement of benefits among the people," said Xi.
Grassroots party organizations also held celebrations across China. In the southern province of Hainan, local farmers organized a concert to praise the improvement of living conditions. Celebrations were also held in old revolutionary base areas in the northwestern province of Gansu. Meanwhile in Shaanxi province, a grand exhibition titled "Road to Revival" told of China's history from the First Opium War of 1839 with over 500 photographs.
