Full coverage: South China Sea Is Indisputable Part of China
A group of international law experts at a seminar in The Hague have voiced their doubts over the South China Sea arbitration case unilaterally initiated by the Philippines. They say the way the case has proceeded is questionable. Abdul Koroma, a former judge from the International Court of Justice, said the purpose of the jurisdiction of the arbitration tribunal is to resolve disputes and the best way to resolve them is to negotiate.
"Obviously in my view, I think the best method for this kind of dispute is to negotiate. This is my view. And I think you want a settlement that will be so sustainable. You know, eventually, neighbors have to live together. They should feel comfortable with whatever settlement there is," Koroma said.
