The uniform known as dragon outfit is what the Chinese athletes will wear on the podium if they are able to earn a medal. CCTV reporter Mike Fox has an award winning report on this.
Olympic champions Guo Jingjing, Zou Shiming, Wang Hao, Wu Jingyu, and Lu Xiaojun were on stage to model "The Champion Dragon Outfit", also known as the "winning outfit".
The uniform is designed according to Chinese traditional culture, with the dragon and totem as its main elements. The Dragon was designed to look like it was running, in a bid to motivate China's athlete to move forward and try their best.
Zhang Chenglong, 2012 Olympic champion of gymnastics, said, "I think it is more comfortable and in terms of the design, it's very novel and has more creativity. Especially the dragon on the sleeve, it's very cool and it shows our Chinese element. When I am wearing this uniform, I 'll be looking forward to standing on the podium. "
Apart from the dragon, the designer also used reflective patches to put on clothes, hoping the Chinese athletes could as he put it "shine during Olympics", and it can also improve the safely when athletes walk during the night or in dark areas.
"I think it's very fashionable. I noticed the reflective patches when Hou Na was wearing it, I think this is what people would notice," said Wu Jingyu, two-time Olympic champion of taekwondo.
Apart from the design, the clothes material is also very environmently friendly as material was used by the regenerated fibre from Cola bottles and its seft yarn is originated from fibre out from corn. Special techniques were used to maintain good adhesive strength between the lining.
Chen Jinxing, vice director of Anta commodity centre, said,"In the past we used a different technique which doesn't have good air flow. Now we optimize that by using aknitting technique, which greatly improves the air flow."
Members of more than 10 different teams including boxing, weightlifting and rowing also showcased what they will be wearing during the competition by models.
The country will be sending 374 competitors to Brazil with all of them hoping to don the new outfit.
