The CPC was founded in 1921, a difficult time for the Chinese nation. The Party's members were frequently threatened with their lives. So the admittance of new members was made as strict as possible to winnow out all but the true and bravest believers.

Almost a century later, joining the Party is no longer a question of life and death, but new challenges have demanded equally strict procedures to ensure that CPC members will stand up for the interests of the Chinese people.
