Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and South Africa both called for peace and stability in the South China Sea, and any disputes should be resolved through negotiations involving the relevant parties.

"The Tashkent Declaration shows SCO and its 6 member countries' have a shared concern and standpoint on the South China Sea dispute. The Department of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa also stated that the sovereign states that are directly concerned should resolve their relevant disputes through direct consultations and negotiations, on the basis of respecting historical facts and in accordance with international law. China hopes that the parties concerned can listen to these rational voices. Don't go astray from the right path to resolve the problem," Hong said.
