China's top legislature opens bimonthly session

China’s top legislature, the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, has opened its bimonthly session Monday. During the six-day session, lawmakers will review a series reports and draft amendments to several laws and regulations.

Zhang Dejiang, chairman of the 12th National People’s Congress Standing Committee, presided over the meeting. Legislators at the bi-monthly session will deliberate on draft laws on asset evaluation and cyberspace security and revisions to the Wildlife Protection Law.

Legislators will also deliberate on proposals, including those to review the draft of the general provisions of civil law and revisions to the law on Red Cross societies. Moreover, a report by the State Council on the central government’s final accounts in 2015 is also expected to be reviewed.
