Chinese President Xi Jinping has put forward a five-point proposal at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Uzbekistan's capital, Tashkent. His proposal includes promoting the Shanghai Spirit -- a spirit of mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, communication, respect for cultural diversity and mutual development.

Under the proposal security comes first, cooperation is expanded, people-to-people exchanges are developed, and openness and inclusiveness are upheld. Friday is the last day of the annual two-day summit. President Xi met with his counterparts from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, and Belarus on the sidelines of the summit.

Xi's regional counterparts all showed strong support for China's Belt and Road initiative. At the conference, President Xi also met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two global leaders agreed on the importance of coordinating the goals of the European Economic Unit and the Belt and Road Initiative within the SCO framework.
