It's a tumultuous time in track and field with numerous athletes being caught retroactively for doping at previous Olympics, but the nation hit the hardest is undoubtedly Russia. On Friday, the IAAF voted unanimously to uphold the suspension of the nation's athletics team which means Russia will not be able to compete in track and field at the Rio Olympics.

The ban was first imposed in November after a World Anti-Doping Agency report detailed widespread, state-sponsored doping in the country. Russian athletes were training at the Olympic Stadium in Cheboksary on Sunday, in preparation for the Russian National Athletics Championships, which are due to get underway on Monday. The championships should have been the qualifier to decide which athletes would go to the Olympics this summer, but instead they are now just a national event leaving the athletes who have trained so hard devastated.
