Economic links between China and Serbia are growing with the development of the Belt and Road Initiative. China is also making efforts to expand cooperation with Central and Eastern European countries as a whole.
China's total investment in Serbia over the years has now reached between 2.5 billion and 2.8 billion US dollars. Major contract projects include the Belgrade-Budapest Railway, the Mihajlo Pupin Bridge, the E763 Motorway and an expansion and upgrading of the Kostolac Power Plant.
China's central bank announced on Friday that it had signed a 1.5 billion yuan bilateral currency swap agreement with its Serbian counterpart that's about 228 million USD. In the first third of this year, China invested 85 million US dollars in Serbia, while Serbia invested 34 million dollars in China. The two countries plan to continue to increase trade and investment.
