Thai scandals shocks buddhist-majority soceity

Thai monks has been involved in a series of scandals, with allegations including drug taking, drinking, gambling and visiting prostitutes.

In June, Thai officials raided the famous Tiger Temple which is accused of selling tiger parts at high prices on the black market, and engaging in unethical breeding. In 2013, authorities seized nearly 800,000 US dollars of assets from a monk, who was disrobed after video of him on a private jet was posted on the Internet.

Also in 2013, Thai police arrested two monks for procuring a 14-year-old boy to perform sexual acts. The scandals shocked the buddhist-majority nation and led the government to set up a hotline for the public to report wrongdoing by monks.
