Slovakia were taking on Russia and in need of a win in their second match after they lost their opener to Wales 2-1. Russia are on thin ice after UEFA promised to disqualify the nation if its fans are involved in any more violence and that added distraction likely didn't help them on the pitch as they were outplayed by the Slovaks for much of the match.
Slovakia take the lead in the 32nd minute when Marek Hamsik sets up Vladimir Weiss with a superb long ball. Weiss then cut inside the box to curl a shot inside the far post making it 1-0 Slovakia.
Just before halftime, Hamsik picks up a short corner on the left and strikes his own curling shot across the goal and inside the right hand post and it's 2-0.
Russia pull one back in the last 10 minutes with a header from Denis Glushakov, but Slovakia hang on to win 2-1 and move up to second place in the pool with their first victory.
Here are the Group B standings with Wales on top with three points and ahead of Slovakia on goal difference. England are currently in third and will take on Wales later today while Russia is winless and at the bottom.
