Now it's only less than ten days away to the Brexit referendum. 43 million Britons will decide on June 23rd if they want to stay in or leave the EU. Across the Europe, it appears the British are not the only ones with doubts about the European Union.
New polls across the bloc suggest that in some countries, a majority of citizens would also like to vote on exiting the EU.
Anti-EU sentiment is spreading fast across Europe, with some populations even surpassing the UK, according to a recent Pew Research Center opinion poll of over 10,000 people.
According to the survey only twenty seven percent of Greeks now hold a favorable view of the E.U.
Even so, many Greeks are nervously awaiting the results of Britain's in or out referendum later this month.
"I'm anxiously waiting for the result, waiting to see what happens. If the British decide to leave the EU, it will be a bad development for Europe and its completion as well as for Britain itself," said Greek citizen.
Some Germans, including the chancellor, see Britain as a likeminded nation when it comes to lobbying for freer trade and less handouts.
"I'm in favor that the Britain staying in the EU and I cannot imagine that Europe will still exist in the future without Britain, and I think that Britain plays an important role to make progress in EU reforms to maintain the European Union," said German citizen.
Polling has revealed that Europeans above the age of 50 are more supportive of Britain's referendum than the young, who are generally more keen on the idea of a European Union, and that woman are generally happier being a part of the bloc than men.
In Spain, anti-Europe sentiment growing, many support a referendum thought not the Brexit.
"It seems like a good thing that they're being asked what they want to do. It seems right that they decide if they want to be in the European Union or not," said Spanish citizen.
Divided as they may be, the most recent poll revealed only 16 percent of Europeans fully back a Brexit.
"It's not good for us if we think only of ourselves we will be selfish we have to think of everybody," said Spanish citizen.
So if there is a majority sentiment it seems to be, yes have a referendum, yes, wrestle back more powers from the E.U. institutions and yes, please stay.
