A French police official and his wife were stabbed to death by a man who claimed allegiance to the Islamic State militant group. The attacker was killed later in a police assault.
Investigators say the attacker stabbed first the police official outside his house in the Paris suburb of Magnanville on Monday night. The attacker later holed up inside the house and took hostage the official's wife and their three-year-old son. After the police assault, authorities found the dead body of the wife, while the boy was unharmed. The toddler is now under medical attention. The attacker has not been identified yet, while neither of the couple was named.
ISIL has claimed the attacker was its 'fighter'. French President Francois Hollande condemned the attack, calling it an 'odious act'. He said a meeting would be held on Tuesday morning to discuss the incident. The killing came a day after Orlando shooting in the US which was also claimed by IS.
