The inaugural meeting of Organizing Committee for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup was held in Beijing. The tournament, previously known as the Basketball World Championship is considered to be the flagship event of the international federation and 2019 will be the second edition of the tournament since it changed its name in 2012 .
The members of the Organising Committee were officially presented during the meeting with Liu Peng, the director of the State General Administration of Sports leading the group along with Wang Anshun, the Mayor of Beijing. There are five executive directors and seven executive deputy directors. For the first time ever the tourney will be held in eight cities as Beijing, Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan and Dongguan will co-host the event. 140 teams will compete for 15 months in preliminaries in order to qualify for the final 32 spots.
