Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the shooting by a lone gunman in a gay nightclub that killed at least 50 people and wounded 53 others in the US city of Orlando. Flags have been lowered to half-staff at the White House in the wake of the worst shooting in US history.

World champions Germany begin their quest for a record fourth European Championship by beating Ukraine. After Poland beat Northern Ireland earlier, Germany now top Group C. On Thursday they face the Poles, who beat them in qualifying for Euro 2016.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has met with visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel. During their talks, Li said China is confident in the future of bilateral relations and cooperation. Merkel said the China-Germany inter-governmental consultation is an important mechnism in promoting ties.

The European Union recently presented a new aid plan to reduce the number of African migrants arriving in Europe via Libya. It's offering up to 62 billion Euros worth of new funding to help countries cut the number of people trying to reach Europe. 

>> Five injured in Shanghai airport explosion

Five people were injured in an explosion at Shanghai Pudong International Airport Sunday afternoon. The explosion happened at around 2:26 p.m. when a man threw a homemade beer bottle explosive to a check-in counter in Terminal 2. The airport is now in normal operation.

China's weather authority is advising the public to prepare for storms and rain-related disasters like flash floods and landslides. The National Meteorological Center has re-issued blue alerts of storms across China - and they will be effective until Tuesday morning.
