Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng has attended the opening ceremony of the eighth Straits Forum which is underway in Xiamen. He gave a speech during the opening ceremony and stressed adherence to the political foundation of the 1992 Consensus to ensure peaceful development of cross-Strait ties.

"On the opening ceremony of the 8th Straits Forum. Chairman of CPPCC National Committee Yu Zhengsheng has attend the meeting and met with parties principals and independent Democrats from Taiwan, including leaders from the Hu Zhiqiang, vice chairman of the National Party and Yu Muming, leader of New Party.
As it is the first forum since the Democratic Progressive Party come into power, the future of cross-strait relationship is becoming a hot issue. Nearly two thousand guests attend the opening ceremony and over half are from Taiwan. Apart from party leaders, there are over 30 civil groups from Taiwan and 11 members of county and city leaders and speakers has also attend the forum. We have talked to some guests and they have been confident that the civil exchange will not be affected in the future.
The forum this year focus on expanding the civil exchange and promoting integration development. And many events aims to help young people across the straits, including a new Taiwan venue was build in Xiamen to harbor start-ups from Taiwan in cultural and creative industry and varies policies has been made to help young entrepreneurs from Taiwan to do business in Chinese mainland and further promote the exchange and merging between younger generation.
Another focus is to promote the sharing and mutual development in civil sectors. Which cover a wide range of social lives. For example further enhance the function of Xiamen Free Trade Zone, holding talks among think tanks, and financial talents, building up ties between counties across the straits and further deepen the exchange in technology, trade charity, college communication, women groups and agriculture and so on."
