The Straits Forum, the largest annual event for cross-Straits exchanges, kicks off on Saturday in the Southeastern port city of Xiamen in Fujian province. The week-long event will focus on employment and entrepreneurship among youth groups. Discussions will be held between young entrepreneurs from both the mainland and Taiwan.

A fleet of US, Indian and Japanese warships have started an eight-day large-scale naval exercise in the Western Pacific. The Malabar drills are taking place off the east coast of Japan's Okinawa prefecture. Last year, they were held in the Bay of Bengal near India.

People across China have celebrated the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday. The Dragon Boat Festival is one of the most important traditional Chinese festivals and is celebrated annually on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. Dragon boat races were held and Zongzi was the must-have food of the festival.

Philippine diplomats have urged President-elect Rodrigo Duterte's government to launch bilateral talks with China to settle the South China Sea territorial dispute.
