The United Nations has wrapped up a three-day high-level summit on ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030. 193 member nations have made new commitments and pledges to speed up the fight. Earlier, my colleague James Chou spoke to Antonio Patriota, Brazil's ambassador to the UN. Patriota shared that prevention and treatment, human rights, AND mobilizing resources are the three main pillars of the declaration that Brazil has adopted in the summit.

"Ambassador Patriota, when we look at Brazil, and when we think about AIDS, your country is showing so much leadership, whether it be the political championing against this epidemic, whether it be the delivery of treatment, whether it be achieving the universal health coverage. When we look at this declaration now, what's in that for you? Where would you unpack and say that's what's gonna save lives."

"Well, James, I think you're correct and pointing out the leadership that Brazil has exercised, leading by example to a good extent, so we must remain very vigilant and we need a lot of leadership for this," said Antonio Patriota.
