Saturday marks China's 11th Cultural Heritage Day. The theme of this year's celebration is "Integrate cultural heritage with modern life".
Major events will be staged in Chengde, in China's northern Hebei Province. Chengde is best known for its vast imperial palace and garden, formerly used by the Qing dynasty emperors as a summer residence. Multiple activities will be held to celebrate the day.
China has 30 cultural heritage sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List, ranking number 2 in the world and second only to Italy. Cultural Heritage Day, established in 2005, is celebrated annually on the second Saturday of June.
