Five hard core hikers in Western China would compete to be the fastest to scale Yuzhu Peak in Qinghai Province. In order to complete the mammoth task they would have to overcome the elements and high altitude in a test of pure perseverance and endurance.

More than 6,000 meters above stands Yuzhu Peak and despite its thick snow the mountain would not stop five brave women from reaching the top and they were more than ready to embrace the difficulties nature had in store for them.

The race begins at 5,050 meters where the climbers from the 5 different continents started to take on the famous peak. The aim of the game wasn't just climbing, it was also learning how to deal with the conditions, which in some cases came down to just knowing how to breath in the hight altitude.

However, the real difficulties came when the summit was in sight. With under 500 meters to go the participants started to tire and experience pains. 

American Stevie Kremer and Myriam Guillot of France lead from the front and as the distance got shorter so did their breaths. Kremer would hold out and take over Guillot to be the first one to the top.

And she wasted no time in making her way down after the race with just two hour and 43 minute turn around. The American runner had arrived just one and a half days after setting off with second place just 4 minutes behind.

Not all of the runners had a perfect day. New Zealand's Ruth Croft injured her hand on the mountain, but she stuck it out come third. Brazilian Carmila Nicolau and China's Dong Li also completed the run. The journey for these women may have come to an end but the experience will live in their minds forever.
