The second China-US Climate Leaders Summit also kicks off on Tuesday as part of the the Eighth Round of China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogues.

Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang on Monday said breakthroughs in negotiating the historic Paris agreement on climate change are attributable to effective China-US cooperation. He also said cooperation on climate change demonstrated that the two powers can make major achievements that will benefit both themselves and the world.

US Secretary of State John Kerry also said he expected stronger leadership from the two countries in shifting away from intensive, high-polluting energy consumption.
