Chinese and US government officials expressed hope for more concrete cooperation that would benefit both countries and the rest of the world. The comments came during the China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue in Beijing.

Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong said she expected the two sides to establish more platforms for people-to-people exchanges in education, science, culture, health and other fields.

Vice Premier Wang Yang mentioned that China looks forward to communication with the United States on macroeconomic policies, a bilateral investment treaty, global economic governance, finance, climate change and province-to-state cooperation.

From the US side, Jack Lew echoed Secretary of State John Kerry, saying that the world's two largest economies' economic policies are important both to the two countries and the rest of the world.

On Tuesday, Lew added that the two countries should enact policies that encourage healthy competition, ensuring predictability and transparency in the policy-making and regulatory process, protecting intellectual property rights, and removing discriminatory investment barriers.

The two sides agreed on many aspects, but also admitted some difficulties will have to be solved through closer cooperation.
