Chinese and U.S. leaders called for closer cooperation between their countries Tuesday during the final day of the annual Strategic & Economic Dialogue in Beijing. American Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew said that the U.S. welcomes Chinese investment. Meanwhile, Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi encouraged companies from both countries to seek cooperation within competition for a win-win outcome.

Istanbul's governor says eleven people, including seven police officers, have been killed in a bomb attack in a central Istanbul district. The remote-controlled bomb in a parked car exploded as a service shuttle carrying police officers passed through Beyazit district on Tuesday morning local time. 

>> Muslims in Jerusalem end first day of fasting

As the sun set in Jerusalem on Monday, prayers rang out from the Al-Aqsa Mosque to indicate the end of the first day of fasting in the month of Ramadan. Thousands of Muslims gathered for Tarawih, a special evening prayer service held during Ramadan. During this month, Muslims refrain from eating, drinking and smoking during daylight hours, and break the fast with a festive meal after sundown.

The body of the Chinese peacekeeper Shen Liangliang who was killed by an attack on the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali, or MINUSMA camp, has arrived in the capital Bamako. MINUSMA held activities to commemorate the Chinese peacekeeper Tuesday, and a memorial service took place on the same day.

Speaking before the Fed's key policy meeting next week, Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen says interest rate hikes are likely now that risks from earlier this year have diminished. Prospects of another hike this month were all but killed by a report last week showing only 38-thousand jobs were created in May.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is back in Washington this week - to meet with the US president and American business leaders. Modi comes to the United States expecting to close a deal for deeper defense cooperation begun by his defense chief in April.

French authorities have been on high security alert ahead of the European championships, amid fears that the tournament could be targeted by Islamist militants. A string of terror attacks have been foiled before they could happen. And a French citizen is under arrest in Ukraine, and police say his target was the upcoming tournament.

>> NATO holds largest military exercise in Poland

NATO members and partners have launched their largest ever joint exercise since the Cold War in Poland. The two-week drill kicked off on Monday in Warsaw. Codenamed "Anaconda-2016", the exercise will involve some 31 thousand troops from Poland, the US and 17 other NATO member nations, as well as from five partner nations.

Close to 10 million students across China sat the national college entrance exams Tuesday to compete for an opportunity to enter the college of their dreams. They are competing for just over three million undergraduate places, which means two out of three students won't be accepted. The test lasts for two or three days in different regions.
