Chinese Admiral Sun Jianguo has warned Japan to stay out of South China Sea disputes. Sun met with Japanese vice defense minister Toru Mimura on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue on Saturday. He urged Japan to respect China's interests and concerns, and not to intervene in or hype up regional tension.
Also on Saturday, in a meeting with South Korean Defense Minister Han Minkoo, the Chinese admiral said China is concerned over the Thaad anti- missile system that the US wants to deploy to the Korean Peninsula. He said it would harm trust between China and South Korea, and China hopes it will be kept off South Korean soil. Han Minkoo meanwhile asked China to use its influence to stop the DPRK from obtaining nuclear arms.
