We turn now to sad news from boxing, where former world champion Muhammad Ali has passed away at the age of 74. The legendary fighter, who held the heavyweight title on three occassions in the 1960s and 1970s, had been admitted to a hospital in the state of Arizona with a respiratory ailment.

Ali, who was known as "The Greatest," won widespread recognition for his clever lines during interviews, as well as his quick hands in the ring. Outside of boxing he was an activist, and refused to fight in the Vietnam War. He also converted to Islam and changed his name. He was born as Cassius Clay, but took on the name of Muhammad Ali after changing religions.

After retiring he kept a low profile, but did light the cauldron at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. The 74-year-old has suffered from Parkinson's Disease for more than three decades. The New York Post and the International Business Times cited a report on Radar Online's website as saying Ali had been placed on life support. The source did not comment on that report.
