The peacekeepers camp of the United Nations' Stabilization Mission in Gao, northern Mali was under terrorist attacks, leading to one dead and four wounded Chinese peacekeepers. The incident had aroused tremendous concern in China.
The terrorist attack stands as a reminder that terrorist forces are a malignant tumor of the world, which impact global peace and stability. With Osama Bin Laden getting killed, al-Qaeda is moving toward disintegration.
Under the banner of al-Qaeda, some terrorist organizations have expanded their influence to launch more terrorist incidents. The United States and Russia have fought the IS terrorist forces in the Middle East over the past two years, causing terrorists in the Middle East to spread elsewhere. Western Europe and North Africa have become major destination points for terrorists. The patterns of terrorist incidents appear to be ever-changing. Terrorists are targeting UN peacekeepers to spark confusion in the international community.
Terrorist attacks are a growing threat. The Mali incident demonstrates that they can threaten domestic peace and stability, along with the lives and property ofits people, as well as to challenge international order and security. They are provoking the UN and international community to demonstrate their anti-humanity and anti-society. Eliminating the malignant tumor is beyond the power of a single state, and we must rely on multinational forces to work together. Yet, terrorist attacks are rising in numbers.
The international community should intensify a crackdown on terrorist forces with joint efforts. The UN can lead relevant countries in such matters.
Chinese peacekeepers have suffered severe casualties. Beijing has issued a solemn stance to condemn the terrorist incident. Nevertheless, the incident will not weaken the resolve of the Chinese government and its citizens to support the UN in maintaining global peace and stability.
Terrorism would not soften China. China is a responsible big country. With China's increasing strength, the nation will make stronger efforts to safeguard world peace within the UN framework.
