Governments and businesses around the world have been investing heavily in 5G technology.
Back in 2012 when the world was starting to convert to 4G, the European Union had already begun to invest in 5G. The bloc has spent 1.4 billion euros to research 5G since then and it plans to launch technical experiments in 2018.
Meanwhile, South Korea has made 5G a national level strategy. The South Korean government plans to invest 1.5 billion US dollars over the next few years and will launch an experiment for 5G commercial use during the 2018 Winter Olympics in the country.
Japan is eying similar strategies for 5G. It plans to offer 5G services during the 2020 Olympics. American mobile carrier Verizon, on the other hand, is more radical. It says it will launch 5G technical experiments later this year.
