U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has asked the Security Council to add more than 2,500 peacekeepers to the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Mali.
Ban’s report was issued Tuesday, saying the additional troops and police should bring capabilities such as intelligence gathering and surveillance, explosives disposal, and protection to supply convoys.
U.N. Security Council president for June 2016, French Ambassador Francois Delattre, said the Security Council has been studying Ban’s report and would renew the mandate of the U.N. police mission in Mali, also known as Multi-Dimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission.
