World No. 1 leads 3-6, 6-4, 4-1 before rain suspension

Over on the men's side, the players are just as frustrated by the rain as the women and are actually farther behind as they play after the ladies. World number one Novak Djokovic was facing Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut in the fourth round as the Serbian continues his quest for a maiden title at Roland Garros.

Bautista Agut in the near court managed to win just three games against Djokovic in their last meeting at the Madrid Open. However it's the top seed who has a poor start. He fails to find his rhythm from the offset and loses his first set of the tournament 6-3.

An expected fight back is temporarily put on hold as rain stops play for nearly three hours. When play restarts the Serbian finally takes command - directing Bautista Agut around the court with his familiar authority before sealing the second set 6-4 with a break of serve.

Djokovic continues with strong performance for a 4-1 lead in the third set, before play is suspended due to further rain. But he makes light of it, borrowing an umbrella from a spectator and takes a walk around the Court Philippe Chartrier. The match is supposed to resume on Wednesday.

13th seeded Austrian Thiem in fourth round match

Unseeded Marcel Granollers enters the match against Dominic Thiem with fresh legs after third round opponent Rafael Nadal withdrew from the tournament ahead of their match with a wrist injury. But it's Thiem who displayed the most energy and wins the first set 6-2. The second set gets tighter - both players exchanged breaks at the start and battled out a series of long rallies - including an entertaining 27-shot exchange in the ninth game.

Serving at 6-5 down, Thiem would wins the point with a backhand drop volley, goes on to force a tie-break. But the tie-break is one-sided as Granollers wins 7-2 before rain stops play.

Matches to resume on Wednesday

Fans spend more time looking at the murky Parisian sky than watching tennis when the rain washes out all the remaining matches on Tuesday. The inability to play under cover makes the Roland Garros the only one of the four grand slam venues that does not have a court with a retractable roof.

Some of the fourth round matches are expected to be played on the same day with the quarter-finals. Among them are Tomas Berdych, who trails David Ferrer 2-1 in the opening set, and 12th seed David Goffin, who trails Ernests Gulbis in the first set.
