Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is expected to announce a 2 and a half year delay to next year's proposed sales tax hike at a press conference on Wednesday.
The press engagement comes days after Abe pitched the proposed delay to fellow members of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party. On Tuesday, the country's lower house of parliament defeated a no-confidence motion against Abe's cabinet.
Opposition parties submitted the motion to criticise Japan's 'Abenomics' economic policies and other plans before a July upper house election. Abe's ruling coalition has a two-thirds 'super' majority in the house and handily rejected the no-confidence motion.
