Staying on the pitch -- more than 150 families gathered at the Guangzhou Olympic Stadium over the weekend. They were there to celebrate International Children’s Day, at what was dubbed the 2016 Kinder+Sport Guangzhou Family Football Carnival.
It is the third successive year for the football camp to be staged in the capital of Guangdong Province. The carnival concluded after more than one-thousand kids took part in all, during each weekend of May. Ou Chuliang, the current assistant coach and former goalkeeper for China’s national team, along with Jiang Meizi, captain of the Guangzhou Women’s Football Team, joined the closing festivities. Ou and Jiang would team up with kids to compete against each other in a skills challenge.
The family football carnival wrapped up with an entertaining 150 versus 11 match. Ou led the 150 kids as they 'played' against their coaches, who were all retired pro footballers. The former PRC keeper said he hops the interaction will help promote the sport among the teens, and to encourage more of them to enjoy the fun of playing football.
