Islamic State militants have launched a wide-scale assault on jihadi rebels outside of the city of Marea, in the northern countryside of Aleppo province in northern Syria. 

The UK-based  Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says Islamic State militants detonated car bombs as they marched on the city. The surprise advance comes on the heels of a US-backed Kurdish-Arab offensive against Islamic State's de facto capital in Raqa further east.
