TASHKENT, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday stressed the role of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in promoting the prosperity and stability of the Eurasian region.

Wang made the remarks while attending a meeting of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers in the Uzbek capital.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the SCO, which has played a prominent role in promoting regional prosperity and stability, said Wang.
During the course of development, the SCO has seen fruitful results in various fields while deepening neighborly-friendship and win-win cooperation among peoples in the region, he added.
The foreign minister also called on member countries to actively prepare for the SCO summit to be held in Tashkent next month in line with the "Shanghai Spirit," which is the core ideology and behavior of the SCO marked by mutual trust, equality, consultation, respect for diverse civilizations and shared development.
Wang also pointed out that the countries should proceed with confidence, solve problems with vision and innovative thoughts, and strengthen the implementation of political consensus in order to promote the development of the SCO with effective methods and effecient collaboration.
Other foreign ministers on the meeting voiced their support to the unique role of SCO in linking the China-proposed Belt and Road initiative with the Eurasian Economic Union, saying the organization is of significance in boosting the common prosperity of the Eurasian region.
