On the other side of Manchester, England was facing Turkey in a friendly at the Etihad Stadium. This contest would be a pre-tournament warm-up for both of these Euro 2016 qualifiers. Neither side has ever won the continental title, but the Three Lions hope Jamie Vardy can help them make history once the tournament begins on June 10th, the same way he did at Leicester during the recent EPL campaign.
Tottenham's Harry Kane would put the hosts on the board in the third minute of the game. Hakan Calhanoglu ties things in the 14th with Turkey's first-ever goal against England, in 11 all-time matches.
Kane later misses a go-ahead penalty kick in the 72nd minute, but Vardy scores the winner in the 83rd, as the home side prevails 2-1.
The Three Lions will host Australia on Friday, but Vardy will miss that match, as he's getting married Wednesday.
