Norbert Hofer is a far-right Austrian politician, member of the Freedom Party of Austria and the Third President of Austria's National Council.

In January, the Freedom Party of Austria presented him as its candidate for the 2016 presidential elections. Norbert Hofer caught everyone by surprise when he scored 35 percent in a resounding first-round victory.

Hofer benefited from the recent migrant crisis, where around 90,000 migrants applied for asylum in Austria, straining the country’s resources and public empathy.
