In the final of the Uber Cup, hosts China took on South Korea for the title on Saturday marking the eighth time the two nations have met for all the marbles, a match-up the PRC have dominated by winning seven of those encounters. And the Chinese women had a bit of extra motiviation coming in as their male counterparts had been eliminated by South Korea in the Thomas Cup quarter-finals.

Li Xuerui from the home team would face Sung Ji-Hyun in the near court in the first singles. The 2012 London Olympics champion, Li would be stunned by her South Korean opponent 21-14 in the first game.

Li fights back immediately, and opens an early lead in the second. The Olympic champion would maintain her advantage and take the game 21-13 with this quick backhand to force a decider.

Li continues to play well in the third, while Sung would crumble. On match point, Li's drop shot just stays in which gives her the victory 21-10, and gives China a 1-nothing lead.

So the hosts were one step closer to the title in the best of five series.

Then China's Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei would take on Jung Kyung-eun and Shin Seung-chan in the first doubles. Tian and Zhao won gold in the London 2012 Olympics, and they claim the first game 21-16.

But they concede too many chances in the next two games, including three match points, and finally lose the match 16-21, 21-17, 25-23.

But Wang Shixian is quick to restore order for the hosts. She defeats Kim Hyo-min in straight games 21-13, 21-12 in 45 minutes.

Then Young pairing of Tang Yuanting and Chen Qingchen would beat Chang Ye-na and Lee So-hee 21-14, 21-16 in the second doubles to give China a 3-1 victory.

A grand celebration for the Chinese women as this is their 14th Uber Cup title overall, and third straight.

China's head coach Li Yongbo receives the trophy, and the 53-year-old may feel a little bit relieved after his men's team lost in the Thomas Cup quarter-finals, their worst result ever.

"Actually my opponent played a very good game with good speed. I was ok at the start of the match, but gradually stopped following my strategy which caused many errors. My performance in the first set was not as good as in the second and the decider," said Li Xuerui.

"We have seldom played as partners in the past, not even in training. We played together once in the group stage and our performance was not bad, so that was good preparation for this match today which was only our second time to be paired together," said Tang Yuanting.
