The mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits, or ARATS, says it will maintain its negotiation and contact mechanism with its counterpart in Taiwan, only if the latter confirms their adherence to the 1992 Consensus.
In a statement released on Saturday, the ARATS said its stance and sincerity toward cross-Strait talks based on the 1992 Consensus remains unchanged. The two sides have held 11 talks and signed 23 agreements since resuming talks in May 2008.
