China has become a country with the fastest growing tourism and population in the world. China hosted 133 million foreign and 4 billion domestic tourists in 2015.
The tourism industry earned total income of 4.1 trillion yuan. The World Tourism Organization says China will become the worlds' largest tourism destination country by 2020.
Investment in the tourism sector was over 1 trillion yuan in 2015. That's a 42 percent year on year increase. It's estimated that that number will reach 3 trillion yuan by 2020.
China has been the world's largest source country of outbound tourists since 2012. More than 120 million people traveled overseas in 2015 and spent 104.5 billion US dollars during their trips. That was a 25 percent increase from the previous year. Chinese tourists spent a total of 292 billion dollars overseas from 2004 through 2015.
