First up is football from the AFC Champions league as Shanghai SIPG traveled to take on Tokyo FC in the first leg of their round of 16 showdown. The Chinese side cruised through the group stage, but the competition has become stiffer now and when they find themselves behind due to a Kota Mizunuma goal, a comeback would be much harder to mount without their missing striker, Asamoah Gyan.
The Japan side are aggressive from the start and they come close in the tenth minute, but Takuji Yonemoto can't get much on the sliding shot.
But Tokyo would take the lead two minutes before the break. A free kick from just outside the area is fired through the wall by Mizunuma. The defelected strike is his first goal for the club and it's 1-0 for the hosts. (REPLAYx2) Minuzuma aiming for his own man in the wall and it goes right through his legs while being redirected to the side leaving no chance for the goalkeeper to react.
SIPG are one of just two Chinese teams remaining in the tournament and they draw level after 55 minutes. Midfielder Dario Conca threads a beautiful pass to Lu Wenjun, whose initial effort is saved, but Wu Lei is there for the rebound to make it 1-1. (REPLAY) A fantastic through ball from Conca and Wu is in the right place to capitalize.
Sven-Goran Erikksson would elect not to make any substitutions during the match, but fresh legs might have been useful later on.
Tokyo go on the attack and the SIPG defence fails to spread across the box leaving two men open and it's Mizunuma once again. The volley gives him (REPLAY) his second goal of the night as he converts the cross from Yuhei Tokunaga.
Tokyo go on to win 2-1 and will take a one-goal advantage to their match at Shanghai next Tuesday.
