Officials in central Sri Lanka say more than 150 people are feared dead after two landslides which buried villages late on Tuesday. The official death toll stands at 35.
Rescuers are still trying to find survivors and recover the dead. The search operation is focussed on the town of Aranayaka, 100 kilometers northeast of the capital, Colombo. More than three days of torrential rain have forced almost 200,000 people from their homes.
