The speed of the internet has increased constantly since 2013. It climbed to about nine and half megabits per second in the first quarter of this year.

Worldwide, however, China is in back of many countries when it comes to internet speed. China is behind South Korea, Japan, the United States and numerous European countries. But it stands well above the world average

Meanwhile, China's three major telecom operators have handed in their report cards on fees cut last year. China Mobile slashed 43 percent of its fees for mobile internet while China Telecom trimmed 31 percent. And China Unicom dropped 27 percent.
