France's Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault has separately met with leaders from Israel and Palestine, in a bid to persuade both sides to restart peace talks.

Ayrault met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah, after a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. Palestine has welcomed Paris' proposal, but Netanyahu says his country still opposes peace talks.
Netanyahu also slammed Paris's support for a recent resolution by the UNESCO, which didn't acknowledge Jewish links to Al-Aqsa mosque in East Jerusalem.
