Presumptive Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte says he will reimpose the death penalty in his country. He made his first policy pronouncements in a wide-ranging news conference this afternoon, since winning last week's election based on an unofficial count.

Duterte says he would order a major offensive to destroy Abu Sayyaf extremists. He also made a pledge to end crime and corruption in the country.  Duterte met with Chinese ambassador after the conference, following his comment that he wanted friendly relations with China.
