For more on the relationship between China and the Philippines, we're  joined by  Cui Hongjian, a senior research fellow at the China Institute of International Studies. Welcome Mr Cui.

Q1: Duterte has said he might hold bilateral talks with China, "if the ship of negotiation is in still waters and there is no wind to push the sail". How should we interpret this metaphor? What is he trying to imply?

Q2: A panel in the Hague will soon announce its verdict on the South China Sea case filed by the Philippines. What effect will that ruling have? Could it become part of the Aquino legacy that will be rewritten by Duterte?
