On this special international day of families, we learn the story of a family in quake-affected Ecuador. One-month ago, the quake killed more than 600 people and displaced nearly 30,000.
The devastating quake changed the life of this family forever...
36-year-old Jairo Morales was buried underneath a building, but survived.
"When I received my son's phone call, he said mom, I am dying. When I saw him, he could not move with such a swollen body," said Olga Angeles, Morales' mother.
Ecuador's government transferred him to the capital Quito.
After a week of medical treatment, the family was relocated to this camp.
However, the quake tightened the bonds of this family and the Ecuadorian people....
"There is a saying: life has hope when the family unites. My mother always accompanies and supports me no matter how bad the situation is," Morales said.
"People living here are like a big family. We can feel their bonds. As Ecuadorian people, we support them," said Jaime Urbine, Quito police.
Like others, Morales also suffers from psychological trauma after the quake.
His mother never gives up trying to make him better...
"What is a mother? What does mother mean? It means devotion for sons and daughters," Morales's mother said.
And talking about the future, this mother says "we must look ahead, even though we have nothing".
