Brazil's new interim President Michel Temer has addressed the nation, after the Senate voted to back the impeachment trial of Dilma Rousseff. He has named a business-friendly cabinet, including former central bank chief Henrique Meirelles as finance minster.
At a press conference, the new finance minister said it is essential to rebuild the credibility of the country at home and abroad to attract new investments and get the economy growing again.
"Brazilian society is now mature enough to handle important measures. What is not acceptable is for things to stay as they are. I think the public, and consequently the Congress, are prepared to hear a realistic, correct and honest evaluation of the situation, and what will be necessary for us to resume job creation and adjust incomes," said Henrique Meirelles, Brazil finance minister.
