Qingdao International Fashion Week has opened in the popular coastal city in Shandong Province. It represents a bid to raise China's profile in high-end clothing design.

The event kicked off Wednesday with South Korean designer Chun Sang Doo's latest collection. It's his third appearance at the event.

"The main colors are elegant coffee brown, decorated with pink and purple. I also used bright colors like red and green," said Chun Sang Doo.

With the theme of "Finery Decorates the City", this year's fashion week is staging 38 shows at four venues. Along with exhibitions and brand launches, there are competitions, seminars, salons, and forums in a bid to develop and promote China’s high-end garment industry.

Meanwhile, networking activities will afford designers and distributors the opportunity to win orders and investment from e-commerce companies and funding institutions.

2016 Qingdao International Fashion Week represents a bid to raise China's profile in high-end clothing design.

The event also includes a knitwear design competition and a children's modelling show.

The 2016 Qingdao International Fashion Week runs through Sunday.
