Continuing on the international front, we look ahead to Euro 2016 which kicks off on June 10th in France. And after two years of friendly matches and preparation, the hosts will enter the competition carrying an unusual amount of expectations.
That's because the last two major tournaments held on French soil - Euro 1984 and the 1998 World Cup - both went the way of "Les Bleus". Didier Deschamps lifted the Jules Rimet Trophy in the Stade de France in 1998 and he will be hoping to lead his young squad to glory this year. France also won Euro 2000 and reached the final of the 2006 World Cup but they have struggled somewhat since, failing to progress past the quarter-finals in their last four major tournaments.
Star striker Karim Benzema has been left out of the squad following allegations he attempted to blackmail France team-mate Mathieu Valbuena over a sex tape. But a new generation of players has emerged in recent years and will look to shine on the international stage.
