The stars have shone brightly in France, for the opening of the 69th Cannes Film Festival. They came down to earth from all over the world.

Under the watchful eye of the French security forces, the festival opened with the premiere of Woody Allen's "Cafe Society". Actors Kristen Stewart, Jesse Eisenberg and Blake Lively walked the red carpet along with Allen. Also taking that stroll were this year's competition jury, led by Australian filmmaker George Miller. It includes actors Donald Sutherland, Vanessa Paradis, Kirsten Dunst and Mads Mikkelsen. Over the next 10 days, the nine-member jury will judge the 21 films in competition. They'll decide which one will take home the coveted Palme d'Or.
