Speaking at a meeting with military officials in Sochi, Russian President Vladimir Putin voiced hope that a Russian-US dialogue on Syria would help achieve positive results.

Putin says Russia hopes that its cooperation with the United States will lead to fundamental changes in Syria, but said the situation in the country remains complicated.

"The most important thing is to create conditions for a political settlement in the country. I hope that the mechanism we developed with our partners, including the Americans and the military, is actively involved in this work, I hope that it will lead to positive and fundamental changes in Syria," said Putin.

Putin: Russia's weapons prove their worth in Syria

Putin also said that Russia's new weapons have proven their worth in Syria, helping turn the tide of the war. He said Russian air forces had made more than ten thousand sorties since the start of Moscow's military campaign in Syria last year.

Strategic bombers have flown 178 sorties to Syria, and a total of 115 cruise missiles have been launched against targets in the country from Russian warships, submarines and strategic bombers.
